In the Foliage for Forage & Fern [RF Photo of the Day]

What was the occasion for this shoot?
Tec Petaja: Last September, I was asked to shoot a Forage & Fern workshop at the beautiful Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley, California, which was a first for me but we ended up getting a lot of beautiful imagery from it. The concept and design was created by the lovely Carrie Moe of Type A Society.

How did you get the backlight to work in your favor?
TP: Luckily the sunsets in California are magical and the sun takes a good bit to set. I knew I wanted the sun behind the models, and this little spot in the trees was one of the only good spots to shoot them without the light being too strong. I also wanted to avoid any sun flare, which works for some images but not for this setup, so I used the tree to block it.

What gear did you use?
TP: I shot it on my Contax 645 with an 80mm lens, using Kodak 400 (but I metered at 200). It was processed and scanned by the lovely Richard Photo Lab.
