Finding the Right Angle

When photographer Jessica Bordner saw these hanging florals at a Create + Cultivate speaker dinner in Los Angeles, she knew she wanted to make them a focal piece in her detail shots. “I wanted to capture them at an angle to ensure that the viewer could see the long tablescape,” Bordner explains. “Capturing this straight on wouldn’t have shown the wow factor.”

The dinner was supposed to start after dark, so Bordner worked with the creators of the event to make sure that she could photograph the room before the sun completely set. It was a good call, she says: “I think the timing of the rooftop sunset totally makes this pop!”

(Captured using a Canon 5D Mark III with a 50mm f/1.2 lens as f/2.5 ISO 640 and 1/320 of a sec.)
