Father of the Bride Wanted Practice Lifting the Veil

“I remember this moment exactly,” says wedding photographer Michelle Walker. After all, she notes, “it was unusual to see the father of the bride practice lifting his daughter’s veil so that he could kiss her cheek during the ceremony. I loved it.”

The bride and her father was standing in front of the window, so Walker figured she should put them in silhouette. To do that, she metered for the window light instead of them, knowing that it would make their figures go dark against the light. She also maintained a respectable distance so as not to disrupt the beautiful family moment.

“I had just one shot to get it right,” she says, “and I think I nailed it!”
