Braving the Elements at a Wet and Windy Waterfall Proposal

Skógafoss waterfall in Iceland turned out to be the perfect location for this surprise proposal, even if it was windy and wet for some of it. “Jen thought she was on a couples shoot but, needless to say, she had no idea what was about to happen or what her boyfriend Jerin was up to,” says Ash Davenport from London Wedding Photographer – MIKI Studios.

“We meet at about 9 p.m. in Reykjavík, which in June is almost perfect daylight,” they describe. “We drove about 2.5 hours west towards the waterfalls and black sands beach located at the south tip of Iceland.” The discussion, adds Ash, centered around couple Jen and Jerin’s 6-month epic holiday that was coming to an end and they were about to travel home to Vancouver (Iceland was the final stop before home).

“We finally got to Skógafoss at about 11 p.m. and it was still completely daylight, so we decamped from the car and headed to the main waterfall,” says Mick. “Both Ash and I were in on the proposal so we didn’t want to pose them or interrupt Jerin’s flow in any way. We gave very vague direction but as you can see from the photos and the film, they just knew how to look good together.”

This specific image (below) was totally unscripted, according to the photographers. “They stood by the main flow of water from the waterfall and every now and then the wind brought forth a big gust of spray and socked them. We love this image because they are being completely natural, enjoying the moment, enjoying the surroundings and the awe-inspiring beauty of Iceland’s most iconic landscape, even if they are getting wet. Jerin is embracing the wind and water while still holding Jen’s hand tightly.”
