This month, our Photo of the Day series will be taken over by Rangefinder‘s 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography of 2018. The honorees can be found in our freshly published November issue, as well as in our full online gallery, which shows each of their submissions. For more behind-the-scenes insights on how they created some of their shots, follow us on Instagram, where the Rising Stars will be taking over @rfwppi all month long.

Many weddings in Singapore have some time constraints (due to the shorter ceremonies), often too tight for couples to travel to some gardens or parks for couple portraits. Here in this photo, we walked by the staircase corridor near their house. The light formed an angular highlight on the 2, the floor level we were on. I immediately loved that 2 is the result of 1+1. So, I asked the couple to stand in front of the wall, with the light on their hands and the bride’s beautiful dress.

I always like a different take on a portrait with a bit of mystery. If I have 95% of the wedding shots showing beautiful faces and lovely emotions, I would love to have 5% of the shots that are a little abstract, playful and experimental. I would love to make myself a friend of wedding couples, while still managing to have the role as a craftsman that helps the couples to craft their memories.
