While teaching a lighting workshop in Reno, Nevada, wedding and portrait photographer Ruben Gorjian spotted an area without any type of shade, so he says he “forced my class to embrace the harshness of a midday desert sun and had them use just one artificial light source.”

For this shot, Gorjian used MagMod’s MagBox without any diffuser, to give, he says, that specular light punch that would match the sun condition (at 4.30 p.m.).

“Due to the fact that it was a very windy day, I first opted to have a bare bulb, but then I decided to use the MagBox, because it allowed me to better control my light and the spill of light,” says Gorjian, who has been a MagMod ambassador since 2018. “Even before that, I’ve always used the MagBox at all of my events.”
