You might not know it from looking at this photo, but this engagement session was shot in Central Park, says photographer Carly Zavala. “The day was very bright, which was ideal for me,” she says. “I wanted to be able to play with the light and shadow and hopefully get some dramatic looks.” 

In front of the highly photographed Bethesda Terrace, Zavala “caught Jakina and Christian in this really awesome pose and went for it,” she explains. “I used my Fuji-XH1 with a 35mm lens, and I had my boyfriend hold a diffuser over them so that the sunlight wasn’t harsh. It ended up illuminating their faces in such a soft and regal way.”
