Photo of the Day
Seattle-based photographer Henry Tieu was on a mission to meet and collaborate with local creatives in Kauai (one of the Hawaiian islands), so he planned this styled shoot in order to, as he says, “showcase our creativity and show real couples what adventurous elopements could look like in the region,” he says
From the parking lot, Tieu and several members of the team embarked on a half-hour hike to get to the location. “By the time we finished setting everything up and started shooting, the sun was already on its way down,” Tieu recalls. “We witnessed the most beautiful sunset overlooking the Nā Pali Coast. We all paused for a couple of minutes just to take in the views and to live in that moment.”
Time was tight, though; Tieu only had a few minutes to get the shots in before the sun completely set. “I mentally prepared the kind of frames I wanted and I went for those first in order to be efficient with our time,” he says.
This particular shot turned out to be one of Tieu’s favorites. “I love how symmetrical the couple is as they’re enclosed by the A-frame tent. They just stood there kissing right in the middle and shined through. It looks like a poem that is expressed in the form of photography instead of words.”
