Bali Beach Day

Malaysian photographer Kane.CY took this elopement portrait on Nyanyi Beach, one of the famous black sand beaches in Bali.

“It was a super cloudy day, and the water had a very strong current,” the photographer explains. “The bride, Keng, was so nervous that it was going to rain that I had to try and calm her down. I asked her to look at the shoreline, hoping she would enjoy the moment. Then I placed the groom, Jason, about 10 feet away from her, whispering to him that, ‘once I count to three, run to her and hug her tight, and tell some jokes.’ He did what I asked for, and she smiled. I love this image, where he’s running towards her, because it tells the story in an indirect way, like the old Mario game on Nintendo, where poor Mario will pass all the challenges and keep searching for the princess. It also shows the connection they have.”

(Shot with a Sony a7 III and Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens at f/1.8, 1/400 of a sec. and ISO 400.)
