A View from Behind

The beauty is in the lighting and the details for this artistic bridal portrait captured by Chicago-based shooter Christian Sampson. Taken on the wedding day in what Sampson describes as a “little barn” in Lizton, Indiana, the windows in the barn, while filled with 4 p.m. sunlight, were the only light source for the photographer as the bride was getting ready. “The hardest part of capturing this moment was illuminating the back of her head,” Sampson recalls. “Thankfully, we were in a white room so the walls acted as a reflector to help light the details of her hair and headpiece.”

The light was just impactful enough to highlight the small wisps of the bride’s hair, make the roses pop and illuminate the tiny details in the bride’s dress, says Sampson. “It just all works together so well.”
