Created for a company called Las Vegas Water Beauties, which specializes in supplying synchronized swimmers for different live events and commercial work, this image by photographer Tomasz Rossa required him to hold his breath on several takes!

The shot was created using ten synchronized swimmer performers from two Las Vegas shows—Le Rêve at The Wynn Hotel Las Vegas and O by Cirque du Soleil at the Bellagio Hotel.

“I was shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II and Ikelite underwater housing,” says Rossa. “I was diving with the swimmers and we were all holding our breath without using any extra gear to help us stay under.”

For each image Rossa took to get to this one, he and the swimmers stayed under for about 45 seconds. “By the side of the pool, I had help from the owner and the artistic director of the company, Heather Orrison,” Rossa explains. “She was helping with spacing out the performers and counting them out to go under water. It took us about 40 minutes to do this particular shot.”
