For many wedding photographers, covering the events from the big day can be stressful, and doing it weekend after weekend can be a drain—both on energy and creativity. That’s why Mikayla and Luke Donaldson, the husband-and-wife duo behind Agape Photography based in Ohio, sought out this creative shoot.

“We just needed a break from the normal wear and tear of weddings on our minds,” Mikayla explains, “so we asked our awesome friend Magan, who has an amazing sense of vintage fashion, if she’d like to head to Lake Erie for an evening” and have a fun, carefree photo shoot.

The conditions that afternoon were “magical,” Mikayla recalls. “The light was perfect and there was a cool breeze.” The photographers experimented with uncommon angles, including this low one, to “get out of the mindset of normal, straight-on angle shots, though we did have some of those too,” she says.

Overall, the duo is proud of the final outcome (the full shoot can be seen here), and are also appreciative that they could, as Mikayla says, “get ourselves out of our rut and just focus on the creative aspect, which sometimes we don’t get to do.”
