Timothy and Monicah Katua of Katz Photography were shooting macro, family and event photography before switching full-time to weddings. The pair, who’s based in Nairobi, Kenya, doesn’t believe that weddings should be treated as photo shoots, instead opting for a documentary style with creative flair.

In their eyes, it’s about “showing authentic moments of how the wedding was and at the same time, reminding the couple of how it felt,” letting them relive it when their photos become art in their homes. In post, the duo likes to pop the highlights and shadows to show some dimension in their storytelling and to enhance the mood of the day.

In the gallery above are their behind-the-scenes insights on three of the photos from their submission this year.
