WPPI Speakers at PPE: Be There!

October 1, 2015

By Laura Brauer

It’s October 1 and that means the RF, WPPI and PDN staffs are in overdrive gearing up for PhotoPlus Expo (PPE) toward the end of the month (October 21-24) at the Javits Center in New York City. Between now and then we will be hyping some of the seminars here that we think our audience should definitely try and attend. This week we zoom in on portrait posing, expression and lighting.

It’s always great to see how many WPPI speakers are integrating presentations into PPE, and this year the amount of special programs, photo walks and master classes by members in the wedding, portrait and filmmaking community have doubled.

On Wednesday, October 21, Peter Hurley will present his Canon-sponsored talk titled “The Headshot Game and How To Play It!” from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Hurley, as most of you know from reading Rangefinder, is the headshot master extraordinaire and will be offering key advice and spilling secrets from his new book, The Headshot (New Riders, October 2015).

Come learn the process of how Peter Hurley picked up a camera and forged a career in this genre that has caught fire. In this session, Hurley goes all business, providing you with valuable insights into how he runs one of the most successful headshot businesses in the country.

We are beyond thrilled to have Sue Bryce coming to town to present her seminar, “Posing Women,” Thursday, October 22, from 10:15AM – 12:15PM. Here you will learn the art of body language and guiding expression with confidence and mastery to take your photography to the next level.

“I spoke at PhotoPlus three years ago and I am SO excited to be coming back,” she says. “I have done multiple posing shoots, from a lean body to curves, to show posing in Live View through my lens. This class will be such a great opportunity for me to teach and show people how to make everybody look their best.”

Tamara Lackey shakes things up Friday, October 23 (from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.) in her session, “How To Light, Pose and Shoot for Authentic Expression: Top Ten Tips For Dynamic Portraits,” while our buddy, wedding photographer Jerry Ghionis, takes a look at “Luxurious Light” on Saturday, October 24, from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Not only will he share his favorite lighting techniques to flatter any subject and show you how to shoot in full sun, he’ll also demonstrate how to make on-camera flash look natural and three-dimensional to simplify your approach to church and reception lighting. As always, Ghionis will share some of his latest images and influential albums that guarantee to inspire, challenge and educate.

There’s so much more to come so check back here every week to find out who in the wedding and portrait community is speaking when and on what topic. And go to the PhotoPlus Expo home page for information on registration, special events, speaker descriptions and more!
