What’s New @ Instagram: Archiving and Sponsored Posts

June 14, 2017

Instagram is rolling out a new Archiving feature in its latest update (10.21) that will let you make public posts private.

The new tool places images in an Archive section of your profile. You'll still be able to view them, but no one else will.  If you change your mind, you'll also be able to un-archive the post and have it reappear in your profile.

You'll be able to archive posts once you've updated your app. The update is available for both iOS and Android users.

Instagram is also taking steps to address growing criticism (from the Federal Trade Commission, among others) that branded "influencer" content is being passed off as authentic.

In fact, a recent study found that 93 percent of the platform’s top 50 celebrities had violated the FTC’s Instagram disclosure rules.

Now the social media network is hoping to patch things up with what is essentially a new tag for sponsored posts. The tag will initially be available to Instagram users with business profiles and will prominently disclose the fact that they’re taking money.

So if you happen to posting sponsored content, you can now be a bit more transparent about it.
