Seagate and LaCie have certainly been busy developing new storage devices for this year’s CES. The drives will be available this spring.

For speedy, portable storage, check out Seagate’s new Fast SSD. The name is simple but on target for this drive’s attributes. It’s slender enough to take anywhere and is shock resistant for those unexpected drops. Equipped with a USB-C port, the silver drive comes with two 18-inch cables along with Seagate’s Toolkit backup and mirroring software. Data Transfer speeds of up to 540 MB/s are possible and it’s exFAT formatted. Shipping this spring, the drive is available in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities with a street price of $99, $169 and $349 respectively.

LaCie’s rugged drives are easy to recognize with their bright orange designs and the new LaCie Rugged Secure drive is no different. You’ll get the expected resistance to drops on hard surfaces and the ability to survive sub- zero temperatures that you expect. But now the drive offers the security of hardware encryption with Seagate Secure technology. Using new Toolkit software, the drive can automatically lock after disconnecting it from your computer and only be accessed with a password. This 2TB drive will set you back a mere $139.

Despite its name, the LaCie DJI Copilot is good for more than just offloading your drone footage. It’s a BOSS drive (Backup On Set Solution) with an SD card slot as well as a USB port, so you can transfer images from most drones, DSLRs, action cams, card readers and iOS and Android devices (connectors are included, along with USB-C cables). A status screen tracks data ingestion and iOS and Android apps let you playback, rename and delete files from your mobile devices. Oh, forgot to mention that it’s splash/dust/drop resistant and it can charge your phone, too. This 2 TB drive will sell for $349.
