Software
For all its popularity, Instagram curiously makes it impossible to upload images from desktop browsers. It doesn’t, however, block mobile browsers from uploading photos–a loophole that a new software app exploits to give desktop users a chance to get their images onto the social network.
Dubbed Windowed, the new app is free and open sourced and essentially fools Instagram into thinking you’re uploading photos from a mobile browser. It’s the brainchild of photographer and programmer Felix Sun.
Windowed is just a web browser, so it doesn’t collect your Instagram login info. It’s not officially sanctioned by Instagram, so there’s always a chance they’ll find this workaround and shut it down. Though why they’d want to is beyond us.
