Updates to Photodex's Multimedia Software [Tech Tuesday]

The weather’s beautiful, wedding bells are ringing and it’s likely that your weekends are booked through the fall. Between still images, video footage (maybe some overhead drone shots?) you’ll be tasked with creative ways of presenting the wedding day festivities to the bride and groom. The good news is that Photodex just released a new version of its ProShow software with updates that are sure to please any photographer who works with (or wants to explore) multimedia.

If you’re not familiar with my favorite slideshow software, ProShow Gold and ProShow Producer are both sophisticated applications that are designed for photographers to easily incorporate stills, video, music and soundtracks into a multimedia show. While the latter offers more features, you’ll find more than enough tools and options in either one to create beautiful presentations for weddings, family portraiture, commercial clients and pretty much anyone who will benefit from more than just a handful of stills or video clips—a broad audience, for sure.

ps7New for version 7, Photodex has added a built-in library of royalty-free music and special sound effects (you’ll get more options with Producer than ProShow Gold). The good news is that they’re licensed for commercial and personal use, so you won’t have to pay extra or worry about violating copyright.

With the proliferation of video, Photodex also enhanced video options from input (4K and longer clips), encoding (file sizes are smaller but quality is better) and output. With ProShow Producer, you can even output to HTML 5, although both have DVD and Blu-Ray options as well.

Photodex is generous with freebies, and with version 7, you can download content and free effects from within the software. The UI has been improved and I’m especially happy to see a larger layers list for those multi-layer slides that I’m so fond of producing.

There are plenty of other updates and fixes, which you can see here for ProShow Gold and here for ProShow Producer. The software is Windows-only, but Photodex also offers ProShow Web for Mac and PC users. Here’s a great comparison list for the three products to help you decide which one best fits your needs. Trial versions are available if you want to take any of them for a spin!
