How to Retouch Eyes in Photoshop

The French novelist Marcel Proust once said that the “voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”

Of course, in Proust’s day, “new eyes” was a metaphor. In the Photoshop era, it’s a reality.

In this video, photographer Bill Larkin shows you how to create new eyes. Specifically how to ensure that your subject’s eyes appear even–whether they have a lazy eye or just happen to close one slightly more than the other.

The work actually starts before you open Photoshop. If you notice your subject has a lazy eye (even a very modest one), Larkin suggests positioning them with the smaller eye closer to the camera. The perspective change will help de-emphasize the difference. The rest can be tweaked in Photoshop, as Larkin demonstrates below.
