More than an incremental update, the latest version of ON1 Photo RAW 2021.5 brings with it a host of new and improved features for both the computer and mobile apps.

A couple of the most notable improvements revolve around the improved integration of ON1 Photo RAW and Lightroom Classic. Images can be round-tripped between On1 and Lightroom Classic while maintaining non-destructive editing. While Lightroom Classic may be your default editing program, you may use ON1 for effects or other adjustments that can’t be done in Lightroom. For example, you may want to add a border or a preset and it’s quite easy. Just send the file as a Smart Photo PSD to ON1—retouch it, add layers, a border or any other adjustment, then send it back to Lightroom Classic. From there you can continue with your normal Lightroom Classic workflow and export the image. Because it’s a non-destructive file, you can send the image back again to ON1 for additional adjustments including changes to your current edits. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Equally useful is the ability to batch process images from Lightroom Classic in ON1 Photo RAW. In addition to choosing the module option—for example, Effects or Portrait AI—you have the option to work with a copy with your Lightroom settings and, again, can select the Smart Photo PSD as the file format. There are two ways to apply the same adjustment, such as converting an image to black and white, adding a border or using Portrait AI, etc., to a batch of photos. You can elect to have ON1 pause only on the first photo so you can apply the adjustment to the first file and then have it applied to all the images in one fell swoop. Or you can opt to pause between each image and to fine-tune the batch adjustment individually. Once the images are processed, head back to Lightroom. Your adjusted images are there, side by side with the originals. The whole process is seamless and really quite simple to do.

Batch Processing Lightroom Classic images in ON1 Photo RAW is quick and easy whether you want to convert a small group of images to black and white or need to process images from a large portrait session.

Also new for this update is the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts. This may not sound like a big deal but it really does help to streamline your workflow. There’s a long list of features and functions to choose from including switching modules, hotkeys for the Develop menu, tools, menus and even common tasks when using masks. Custom shortcuts can even be assigned to menus that don’t have a shortcut. The Keyboard Shortcuts dialogue box has a search bar so you can quickly find the function that you want to apply a hotkey to.

For a more efficient (and organized) workflow, check out the new Cloud Sync feature. This allows you to synchronize all your presets, effects, textures, LUTs and other extras via the Cloud so they are automatically available in each of your copies of ON1 Photo RAW. If you work on multiple computers, like most of us do, this is a real time saver since you don’t have to copy and install your preferred effects on each computer.

Of course the software has been updated to support new cameras such as the Fujifilm GFX-100S, Sony Alpha 1 and Sigma fp L. But ON1 has also updated tethered shooting for Canon and Nikon cameras.

A few new features in ON1 Photo RAW 2021.5 for Mobile include, but are not limited to, a histogram and the ability to view camera and photo information.

PRICES: Current ON1 Photo RAW 2021 owners can update to version 2021.5 for free. Owners of previous versions of the software can upgrade for $80. Single purchase for new customers is $100. Monthly or yearly subscriptions starting at $8/month are also available.
