DxO is rolling out a new edition of its Photo Lab software (formerly known as Optics Pro).

Among the highlights of the new build is an updated version of the company’s ClearView tool, which removes haze and improves local contrast. Asset management tools have also been added to the software, enabling users to search and sort through their image collections.

A look at the new PhotoLibrary

According to DxO, the new-and-improved DxO ClearView Plus lets users remove haze without creating an unnatural effect around objects, edges, details, or transitions. The effect can be applied to the entire image or just to specific areas using the local adjustment tools (dubbed U Point) that DxO acquired when it purchased Nik from Google.

As for asset management, the new DxO PhotoLibrary offer image search, selection, sorting and display features. Similar to Google’s auto-complete function (though probably less hilarious), DxO’s Library tool will automatically suggest relevant searches as you type. You can sort images by metadata, file name, date and star ratings.

DxO PhotoLab 2 also adds supports DCP color profiles, ensuring that it can offer color renderings that are close to third-party programs (notably Adobe Lightroom and Camera RAW) and color calibration solutions from X-Rite and others.

PhotoLab 2 is sold in two versions: a full-featured ELITE edition for $199 and a lighter Essentials version for $129.
