Tamron Updates 15-30mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Zoom Lens

Tamron is updating its image stabilized 15-30mm f/2.8 full frame DSLR lens.
The new SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 wide-angle lens minimizes wide-angle distortion and chromatic aberration through the use of an XGM (eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical) lens element plus multiple LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements. A new AX (Anti-reflection eXpand) coating is used to reduce flare and ghosting.
Dual Micro-Processing Units and a tweaked algorithm give the lens improved AF speed and image stabilization, according to Tamron. The 15-30mm lens delivers 4.5 stops of stabilization, per CIPA standards. It’s weather-sealed with a nine blade aperture that stops down to f/22. It can focus on objects as close as 11 inches (at 30mm).
Additional features include:
- full-time manual focus override
- rear filter slot for the Canon mount lens
- Fluorine coating on the front lens element
- compatible with the TAP-in Console for firmware updates and lens adjustments
The new model will be available in a Nikon mount in September and in a Canon mount in October for $1,299. It’s available for pre-order now.
