Phase One Announces XT System Lens Roadmap

March 26, 2020

By Jacqueline Tobin

Phase One’s relatively new medium-format field camera system, the XT, received an updated lens roadmap this month that promises three additional lenses ranging from 50mm through an undisclosed telephoto zoom.

XT – HR Digaron-W 50mm f/4

The XT – Rodenstock HR Digaron-W 50mm f/4 is an ideal balance of a “normal” focal length perspective and wide-angle aesthetic, a close equivalent to human vision. With a large image circle and apochromatic design, the lens is ideal for all scenarios and easily becomes a “do it all” lens solution for the XT camera system.

Specifications

  • Angle of view: 84°
  • Aperture range: f/4 – f/22
  • Diaphragm: Automatic
  • Focusing System: Ultra-fine manual focus
  • Filter: 67mm
  • Dimension: TBD
  • Weight: TBD

Phase one noted that this lens would be ideally applied to architectural and landscape stitching, especially in high contrast interiors or architecture thanks to its apochromatic design. Additionally, Phase One promised “distortion-free” shooting thanks to the “Normal” lens focal length with almost no wide-angle distortion.

XT – HR Digaron-SW 90mm f/5.6

The XT – Rodenstock HR Digaron-SW 90mm f/5.6 boasts the largest image circle of any XT Rodenstock Lens. The large image circle and distortion-free focal length is perfect for large panoramic, or 4-panel architectural, stitching.

Specifications:

  • Angle of view: 67°
  • Aperture range: f/5.6 – f/22
  • Diaphragm: Automatic
  • Focusing System: Ultra fine manual focus
  • Filter: 72mm
  • Dimension: TBD
  • Weight: TBD

Phase One believes this lens will appeal to large panoramic landscape stitching thanks to its 120mm image circle as well as fine detail landscapes, as they promise minimal diffraction from f/5.6 through f/11.

XT – Rodenstock Telephoto

The final lens Phase One announced as part of their roadmap is still pretty much undisclosed. At this point, the company has only revealed that there will be a telephoto coming, and it will have an angle of view of less than 40 degrees. “The XT – Rodenstock Lens Range will add a telephoto lens solution in the near future. Several options are under investigation, exploring the best balance of image circle, lens speed, size, weight, and complexity.”
