Looking for a Super Fast Portrait Lens? Meyer Optik Just Built a Bokeh Beast

May 10, 2018

By Greg Scoblete

Many portrait photographers love fast aperture lenses for their shallow depth of field, beautiful bokeh and low light flexibility.

If you’re in this camp, buckle up. Meyer Optik has created what it claims is the world’s fastest 75mm lens. The Nocturnus 75mm has an aperture range of f/0.95-f/16 with 15 aperture blades to bring the bokeh. (You can peep a few sample images from the Nocturnus 75mm on the Meyer website.)

You can focus on objects as close as 0.5m from the lens.

It’s available in Leica M and TL, Sony E and Fuji X mounts and is a manual lens with a clickless aperture ring. If you use the lens on a Leica rangefinder you’ll need to focus via live view, as coupling isn’t available.

The lens is available for pre-order now. It joins Meyer’s other super-wide lens, the 50mm f/0.95, which is available now for $2,999.
