Picking Up Speed with WD’s New SSD Drive

April 11, 2017

By Theano Nikitas

While asking if you feel the need for speed is, by now, an overused cliché, that doesn’t make the question any less relevant. Larger files sizes and the always-present pressure of getting things done quickly makes the thought of a speedy SSD even more appealing. Enter the new Western Digital My Passport SSD.

This compact portable drive is perfect for travel and location shoots not only because of its small size (0.4 x 3.5 x 1.8 inches) but also because it’s shock resistant. Drops from up to 6.5 feet shouldn’t be a problem.

Windows and Mac compatible, the My Passport SSD is equipped with a USB 3.1 Type-C interface port, which is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. The kit comes with a USB 3.1 Type-C cable as well as a Type-C to A adapter. The drive is also USB 3.1 Gen 2 ready for speeds of up to 10 Gb/s.

You’ll also get WD Discovery software, which includes WD Backup for automatic backup (for local or cloud backup); WD Security, which allows you to set up password protection and WD Drive Utilities.

SSD’s are speedy and the WD My Passport SSD Drive is the fastest in the My Passport line with transfer speeds up to 515MB/s via the USB Type-C port.

And, to wrap it up, this good-looking drive comes with a 3-year limited warranty.

WD My Passport SSD will be available this quarter for $100 (256GB), $200 (512GB) and $400 (1TB). Sign up here to be notified when the drives are in stock.
