Cameras
GoPro has pulled back the curtain on three new Hero 7 action cameras.
The flagship Hero 7 Black, for $400, will offer what GoPro dubs “HyperSmooth” image stabilization to deliver smoother footage when the camera is in motion (as it typically is). Also new for the 7 is SuperPhoto, which automatically creates an HDR image together with local tone mapping and noise reduction.
Unlike prior GoPro models, the Hero 7 black has a removable battery.
The Hero 7 is capable of recording 4K footage at 60p as well as 12-megapixel still images. There’s an 8x slow-motion mode (240 fps in HD) alongside a “TimeWarp Video” setting that creates moving time lapses.
It’s waterproof to a depth of 33 feet without a housing, supports 16 different voice commands and Facebook Live streaming.
Additional features include:
- Built-in GPS
- Protune
- Stereo audio recording plus raw audio recording
- Quickstories
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- H.265 encoding
- Touch display
The Hero 7 Black is available now for $400 and includes a microSD card.
The Hero 7 Silver sheds a few of the Black’s features. It records 4K/30p video and only 10-megapixel still images. It has a built-in battery that’s not removable, lacks the TimeWarp and SuperPhoto features and doesn’t support live streaming to Facebook Live.
It will retail for $300.
The entry-level Hero 7, for $200, records HD video only up to 60p. It is waterproof to a depth of 33 feet, offers at touch display and voice control.
