Five Photographers Take a Closer Look at Southern California
March 1, 2011
The Terrell Moore Gallery (Los Angeles, CA, 213/744-1999, www.terrellmoore.net) will host LA MecCA: Los Angeles as the Promised Land—An Exhibition of Photography from five well known Southern California photographers. Included in the two-week exhibition are images by Douglas McCulloh, who takes a look at the marketing of dreams in collision with the housing crash in his project, Dream Street. Moving a bit closer to home, Mark Indig’s images explore the Los Angeles River, while Larry Brownstein’s series, Hollywood, A Live Show Daily, finds humanity on the streets in the city of dreams. Rounding out the exhibit, Ken Haber explores a community where dreams turned into a nightmare, in his project, The Salton Sea, while Aline Smithson’s series, Unreal/Reality, celebrates a Southland attraction where expectations and observations are illusions in perception. The LA MecCA exhibition runs April 1–14, 2011 at the Terrell Moore Gallery, 1221 S. Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015. Opening reception: Friday, April 8, 6:30–9:30 p.m.
