Winter Solstice in Venice, By Barbara Zanon [Rf Wedding of the Week]

March 10, 2017

By Jacqueline Tobin

If you have to get married in the winter, it may as well be in Venice, Italy, right? Such was the case for Jasmin and Lee. “The day was beautiful and although it was winter, the light was gorgeous,” says wedding photographer Barbara Zanon. “It was a sunny day—not too cold—and there were no surprises for this stunning elopement. Everything went according to plan. I met Jasmin and Lee for the first time in their hotel room as they prepared for the wedding! That was really exciting for me. They were both beautiful and delightful.”

Zanon adds that she really loved the hotel where they did the first look. “Oltre Il Giardino was so romantic—gardens are not usually found in Venice—and I loved the photos I got to take during the sunset on Burano island, with lots of color and vibrancy. Although I was born in Venice and lived here my whole life, the colors of my city always surprise me.”

According to Zanon, everything about the day was perfect. “I had to just shoot! I only became creative when 5 o’clock in the afternoon light fell and they had planned two hours of pictures around the city. Because they were just two, no guests, they asked me to do a long portrait session after the ceremony, so after the sunset, I used all the lights around me—LED lights, natural light in the city in the evening and also, Christmas lights… Why not?!”
