A Softer Tech Tuesday: Hahnemuhle's Canvas Metallic Paper

January 7, 2014

By Laura Brauer

While CES is raging all around us in Las Vegas, we thought we’d add a softer touch to this week’s Tech Tuesday with the new Hahnemühle Canvas Metallic FineArt media.

Hahnemuhle

If you’re looking to add a little shimmer to your images, Hahnemühle’s new Canvas Metallic, with its silver and pearlescent gloss, may be the perfect solution. According to Hahnemuhle, this bright white FineArt inkjet canvas has a  large color gamut, extremely high densities (especially  for dark colors) and sharp reproduction. And, because it’s poly-cotton canvas, it’s perfect for gallerie wrap—even for photographers who use DIY stretcher bars.

As we know, not all images work well with canvas because of the substrate’s texture. But we imagine that the Canvas Metallic is going to complement a wide range of images—whether portraits, weddings, landscapes or fine art—with a rich, elegant look. And, with the extra iridescence of the inkjet coating, you’ll have a unique product to offer clients. We haven’t had hands-on time yet with the canvas since it’s so new, but expect to have samples in a couple of weeks and look forward to testing this new substrate.

The inkjet paper market may not be as fast-paced as many of the tech products we’re seeing at CES, but we’re kind of excited about the Canvas Metallic—not too much bling but just enough to make it interesting. Be sure to check out the Hahnemühle booth at WPPI in March to have a look for yourself!
