Photographed at Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia, this Windswept portrait of model Xavia was taken in a spot just off of Cabot Trail where “all you can see is ocean for miles,” says lifestyle photographer Stacey Van Berkel.

“My favorite moment in photography is when you plan carefully for a shoot, but then something magical happens,” she says, “and this image is an example of that.” This particular moment happened in between shots while the stylist, Susan Johnson Smith, was getting prepped for the next setup. “Xavia was wrapped in a blanket to keep warm while she was waiting,” Van Berkel says. “I turned around and saw how gorgeous this looked and took a few shots. Susan jumped in to make sure that the blanket was wrapped nicely. I think it is the quintessential windswept image from my series.”

(Captured using a Canon 1DX with an 85mm f/1.2 lens. “No extra lighting on this one,” notes Van Berkel, “just a wonderful overcast day, Nova Scotia style!”)
