To offset this couple’s upcoming urban nuptials, photographer Mark Blake took them to this secluded mountain lookout in Boulder, Colorado, to get, as he says, “a healthy dosage of fresh air” for their engagement shoot.

At an altitude of nearly 7,000 feet, he and the couple were at the mercy of Mother Nature. “We initially had to reschedule the shoot due to unpredictable and quickly changing weather in late September,” Blake says—a bummer, but the day they went was ideal: lots of light, lots of visibility and enough wind to blow the dress just so, which all made for authentic smiles. Of this frame, Blake says, “the sun is just perfectly glowing through their joined hands, and you notice this powerful couple ready to tackle the elements together.”
