With so much natural light in this botanical garden, photographers Katja and Simon fell in love with the spot the moment they saw it. Located in the Vila Mirassasso park in Sežana, Slovenia, the gardens had been abandoned for decades, the photographers recall. “The locals had started a revitalization about two years ago and we wanted to capture the soft ambience of the plants under the old and rough glass rooftop.”

But capturing such a scene was easier said than done. “The light kept changing every few minutes—from sunny to cloudy, then back to sunny,” says Katja and Simon. “We moved the plants around to create different lighting situations, creating shade for some portraits and creating more dramatic light rays for the rest,” like the one seen above. (You can view the full gallery on Katja and Simon’s website.)

The shoot was created as a personal project, so Katja and Simon gathered their favorite dress designers, makeup artist and decorator to help out. While the images have yet to be published, “everyone involved used the photos as a promotion for their business,” Katja says.
