Leslee Mitchell was photographing the vintage dress collection of this "very talented designer with whom I work regularly," says the photographer, an Rf 30 Rising Star in 2014. "The clean lines and shadows of the exterior of her home on the right summer day were just as cool as the way sunlight played on the clean lines of the interior. I particularly loved this small grassy courtyard and the contrast of the straight lines of the structure with the feminine curves of her vintage dress."
The only element that bothered Mitchell about this frame at first: the soccer ball. "When she tossed in the soccer ball, I initially found it a distraction to the overall composition," she says. "After falling in love with the image during post, it dawned on me that by tossing the soccer ball in she became the quintessential, modern-day soccer mom with a vintage twist."
