Overcome With Emotion

When you’re shooting a wedding alone, you have choices to make; you don’t shoot simultaneously with one camera in each hand, and that one camera you have raised to your eye can only capture one moment at a time. For Paul Woo—who runs his business, Wandering Woo, out of Columbus, Ohio—that split-second decision flashed in front of him as two important moments happened at once: the bride walking down the aisle, and her little son’s heart-wrenching reaction.

“As everyone stood up and waited for the bride to come down the aisle,” Woo explains, “he started expressing so much emotion. This moment was difficult because I was secretly bawling behind the camera and for a moment, had to prioritize this over the bride coming down the aisle.” Yes, Woo assures, he captured the bride coming to meet her partner too—”but,” he adds, “I knew this moment of her son crying was the moment.”

(Shot with a 35mm lens, “because it’s such an amazing lens to tell the perfect story,” Woo says.)
