When couple Heidi and Nick tied the knot at the Zukas Hilltop Barn in Spencer, Massachusetts, it was a cloudy day and, as Massachusetts-based photographer Rick Reade recalls, “the sky kept threatening to rain on us.” Fortunately, there were occasional breaks of sun poking through, one which produced this beautiful moment. “We were on the hill when the faint rainbow appeared, and I told the groom to do something dynamic to match the setting,” says Reade. “This was his response.”

The photographer made a few adjustments in post to make the couple pop, first by creating a burn layer for the image, then by leaving a circle around the newlyweds to create a subtle bright spot around them. After that, he added a bleach bypass filter to bring out the details in the sky while calling attention to the rainbow in the background.
