A Sparkler Send-off

“I think every photographer (and every wedding vendor in general) can understand what a challenge sparkler exits can be,” says Melbourne, Florida-based wedding photographer Kati Rosado. “You are literally handing 200 drunk people sticks of fire and asking a newlywed couple to walk through the pathway—all the while, you are just praying the bride’s hair does not catch on fire!”

Fortunately, this sparker send-off at the Mission Inn Resort in Orlando, Florida, went off without a hitch, and Rosado was able to use the ambient light from the fiery glow to create a beautiful black-and-white shot. A hybrid film and digital shooter, Rosado says she likes to photograph in black and white to keep her look consistent. For this one, captured with her digital camera, she bumped up the ISO to 3200 because, she says, “I feel like it is more authentic to the actual scene. Many people are afraid of the grain, but I love it and tell them to embrace it!”

(Captured using a Canon 5D Mark III with a 50mm lens at f/1.2 and 1/160 of a second.)
