On My Radar: Sculptural Silhouette

While New York-based photographer Nicholas Alan Cope has dialed in his attention to detail as a still-life photographer, it’s his work with the human form that captures a resonating stillness in me. I am drawn to his work with the figure—specifically in this photo, part of the series “VEDAS” shot in collaboration with Dustin Edward Arnold, in which garments cloak the human form and create sculptural shapes. The esoteric imagery plays into the trend of balancing fashion with architecture. Shooting predominantly in black and white while carefully lighting his subject, Cope is able to focus on the structural values of the imagery, creating silence and pause for anyone who views them.
