Joyce Tenneson To Receive Maine in America Award

The Farnsworth Art Museum has announced that fine-art and portrait photographer Joyce Tenneson will be the recipient of the 2016 Maine in America Award. The award honors an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to Maine’s role in American art.

The photographer will be honored at the Farnsworth Art Museum’s 11th annual Summer Gala, which takes place from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on July 15 at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine.

Tenneson, who was born in Massachusetts, is known for her nude or semi-nude photographs of women. She has authored 15 books, including the popular Wise Women, and has had work featured in Time, Life, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times Magazine, and Esquire, among other publications. She was also named among the ten most influential women photographers in the history of photography by American Photo magazine. Tenneson now lives and works in Rockport, Maine.
