Video of the Week: Filming Weddings Smoothly with the Canon EOS System

If you’re a wedding photographer thinking of adding video to the mix, but feeling a bit nervous about how to make the switch and where to start, this Video of the Week might be helpful in allowing you to envision what you can do on the big day with the right equipment.

Wedding videographer Joe Simon is the visionary behind this Canon-sponsored video that highlights the Canon Cinema EOS C100. At $5,000, the C100 might not be the cheapest camera on the market, but it’s packed full of features (like face detection and contrast autofocus) that seem to work very well for covering events.

In addition to the camera’s Dual Pixel CMOS upgrade, which makes for attractively smooth autofocus, Simon brings along some other gear that helps him out throughout the day: the Stealth Slider from Kessler Crane, a 2.5-foot slider that lets you wedge into smaller spaces and crowds; the Glidecam HD4000, which Simon uses to track shots by hand; and the MoVI—Simon suggests that this is maybe the easiest to work with, meaning less experienced videographers won’t have to master a Glidecam or Steadicam to get those jostle-free shots.

Taking you through the entire day, Simon explains and demonstrates what kind of shots he was looking for during the getting-ready moments, as well as how and why he rigged a multi-camera setup for the ceremony and first dance.
