Every year, the editors and writers of Rangefinder gather to discuss where the industry has been and the direction in which it’s going. Then we throw those notes out and call the experts! Seriously, though, photography as a market sector does seem to grow and evolve fairly quickly, and it’s our job to cover the changes.

In “Trend Watch,” (pg. 54) for example, we highlight some of the issues and styles that are hot right now (including the debate over wedding images going viral, “dudeoir” shots, and bridal “attack” photography). Tech editor John Rettie presents a special report on “Technology Now” (pg. 68) and then various leaders in the industry address how these new technologies will affect you in “Photography Today: Experts Weigh In” (pg. 72). We also asked more experts to talk web design, HTML5 and user interfaces, in “Harnessing the Web” (pg. 60).

When you’re done reading, take out your wallet and start counting all the products you’ll be lusting after in our “Hot Products Buyer’s Guide” (pg. 76), which includes objects of desire in several categories: accessories, bags, cameras, finishing touches, lenses, lighting, tripods, video rigs and much more. And for pure visual indulgence, take a gander at our “Wedding Contest Winners Gallery” (pg. 106).

We’re also excited that this month marks the 30th anniversary of PhotoPlus Expo in Manhattan (Oct. 24-26), our sister pub PDN’s conference and expo, and we will be on hand to kick it off at WPPI U on October 23rd. See you there!

Comments: “This image was all about setting the scene. First, I replaced the sky and added the Star Wars AT-ATs, then I took the photo into Lightroom, where I did all the toning and colorizing. I really wanted to make it seem as if they were not on earth, so I adjusted the sky to become more thunderous while bringing out the blues and greens.”
