Tech Tuesday: Photodex ProShow Producer 6 Announced

December 17, 2013

Photodex just announced a major update to its ProShow Producer slideshow software. I have to admit that ProShow Producer—and the less expensive but still very sophisticated ProShow Gold—are two of my favorite slideshow applications. Granted, they’re Windows-only, but offer a depth of features, levels of control and creative options that are rarely found in other slideshow software. And, even with all the advanced features, there’s only a relatively short learning curve.

Some of the updates to ProShow Producer 6 include the ability to change captions into a text layer and use Open Type Fonts (instead of TrueType) for your captions and text. You can easily import stills and videos from services such as Zenfolio, SmugMug and Picasa. Like a blurred background? No problem. No you can manually soften background images to add more mood to the show and make your main images more prominent. There’s also a new feature to adjust saturation for layers, background and watermarks.

Audio and keyframing features have also been enhanced for more precise custom control and creative options have been expanded with new templates and 150 new effects. Photodex’s Device Plug-in, which allows you to create shows for various devices and used to cost $20, is not included for free. And, there’s a new iOS remote app for transferring images (to your computer or directly into your show) and remotely controlling the show on your laptop or desktop.

That’s just a general overview of some of the new and enhanced features. ProShow Producer 6 has also been updated with a number of fixes, so if you’re a current user, it’s probably time to upgrade. If you haven’t used the software before, now’s a great time to give it a spin with a free trial. The full version costs $250, with upgrades starting at $90.
