New PocketWizard Transceiver Sprouts Hot Shoe Up Top

LPA Design announced the new PocketWizard Plus IV Transceiver at PhotoPlus Expo.

The new model builds on the feature set found on the Plus III with a few new goodies thrown in, including a top-shoe for mounting speed lights. The new top shoe can mount “almost” any speed light for manual triggering, PocketWizard said, in addition to providing on-camera TTL metering for most Canon, Nikon and Panasonic cameras and flashes.

The company also noted that while it’s not done testing the unit yet, they’re “optimistic” that it will work on some Fujifilm and Olympus cameras as well.

When used as a receiver, you can easily mount and trigger virtually any speed light in the shoe for manual power adjustment.

The Plus IV uses the same Quad-Zone Triggering system that’s found on the Plus III, enabling photographers to turn a remote flash on or off from the camera. It also offers long range and repeater modes and will be compatible with other PocketWizard radios and PocketWizard-enable lighting gear from Profoto, Dynalite, Sekonic and others.

Pricing for the new transceiver wasn’t announced, but you can look for the Plus IV to hit shelves in January. The Plus III will also stay on the market.
